Eastern Redbud
Eastern Redbud, Cercis canadensis
A member of the pea family (e.g., snap peas and green beans), this native understory tree produces an abundance of sweet nectar in early spring for pollinators such as bumble bees, cuckoo bees, and mining bees. Additionally, several species of butterflies and moths depend on this tree as a host plant for their larvae. Redbuds make excellent landscaping plants, showcasing a stunning display of pink flowers for about two weeks and thriving in well-drained soil with partial shade. This redbud tree was planted in the terrace garden in honor of Sam Sabrina and will be in bloom until late next week. Please stop by and visit.
