Fall Migration!
Fall is the best time to spot hawks migrating in Westchester as they ride southward winds and thermals to their overwintering territories. Red-shouldered hawks are distinguished by their buffy red wing patches, white barring on tail feathers, and white speckled wing feathers. This forest-dwelling raptor can usually be found perched on lower branches of trees, scanning for small mammals, snakes, and amphibians.
