Does Your Child Have a Birthday Coming Up?

Come Party With the Animals!

Westmoreland Sanctuary offers a unique birthday party for the child who loves nature, animals or maybe just feels a little ‘wild’! All parties take place in our antique Nature Center and Museum and/or our beautiful 640 acre preserve in Bedford, NY and are led by one of our experienced naturalists. We offer both an educational and fun experience for children turning 5 and older and their families at competitive prices.

Birthday parties are held Monday thru Saturday. A 2-hour party includes a one hour program by one of our professional naturalists and another hour for food and cake and to provide time for your guests to enjoy our exhibits and property.

Additional programs can be added to your time for an additional fee. Programs available include:
- Animal Time
- For the Birds
- Take a Hike!
- What’s in our Pond?
- Who’s been Walking in our Woods
- Native American Workshop, and many others (visit for complete list).

To reserve your party date please call Westmoreland’s Education Director at 914-666-8448 ext. 2. All parties require a $25.00 non-refundable deposit received within a week after your reservation to secure your date!

Happy Throwback Thursday!

Today we are throwing it back to this earlier this morning when our Director of Conservation, Steve Ricker caught a beautiful American Goldfinch for his Bird Banding program.

Fun Facts:
       - The American Goldfinch is the state bird of New Jersey, Iowa, and Washington
       - The Goldfinch feeds its young seeds instead of the more popular food amongst birds, insects

Tick Tock,Tick Tock Come Have Some Wine and See Woodcocks!

TOMORROW NIGHT from 8:00pm to 9:00pm!

Enjoy a glass of wine as the sun sets and we listen and try to catch a glimpse of the one of the most unique avian displays in our country.  Woodcocks are birds that look like they should be at the ocean, but live in our fields and forests.  In early spring the males take to the fields at sunset and begin their mating display.  The boys emit strange noises before erupting into the air and then circling down to the ground while twittering.  Adults only.

Cameras for Conservation

The use of game cameras as a tool in conservation has gained ground quickly in the last few years.  No longer must biologists try to trap animals in order to study them.  Westmoreland is 640 acres of pristine forest, wetlands, and fields.  That is a lot of property to monitor the flora and fauna.  Game cameras will allow staff, students, and interns to track the wildlife that uses Westmoreland as a home and as a greenway on their travels.  Join us in our campaign to get new game cameras for Westmoreland Sanctuary.
